The AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint (HVO) is a lightweight orthosis that provides progressive correction of bunions, also known as hallux valgus. The big toe of the foot is called the hallux. If the big toe starts to deviate inward in the direction of the baby toe the condition is called hallux valgus. AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint delivers complete toe stability to help relieve your bunion pain and help you walk more comfortably again.
To use the AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint, simply heat the thermo-moldable splint blank in a hot water bath, then mold it to your foot. Once cooled, the AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint holds its shape and will not stretch. You can mold the HVO to exact correction, either post-surgically or as a night splint, and remold it for progressive splinting.
The AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint is designed to eliminate the bulky bandages and plaster associated with bunion surgery recovery care. The AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint holds the toe position and still allows for post-op swelling -- just loosen the hook and loop strap (included).
When to use the AliMed Hallux Valgus Splint:
Juvenile hallux valgus: Corrects 50% of inoperable hallux valgus deviations. Stabilizes deviation in 85% of users after two years of use. For people 16 years of age and younger.
Painful hallux valgus: For very mild deformities causing soreness at metatarsal head. Can relieve pain after just a few weeks of use.
Postsurgical immobilization: Maintains positioning. Users can walk with a postsurgical shoe as soon as pain subsides.
Nonsurgical cases: Severe bursitis where surgery is not possible. Holds the large toe so tissues can heal. Also help correct a mild deviation that patient finds aesthetically unacceptable.
